In late 2015, I had the opportunity to curate and digitally restore a selection of field recordings from the Margaret MacArthur collection for limited re-release through the Vermont Folklife Center. The collection is one that I have worked with before and is close to my heart, and they graciously allowed me to design my own album artwork as well. The front cover is a photograph from atop Hogback Mountain in Windham County, composited with Margaret’s handwritten notes from the folders the original field recording reels were stored on. The back is a photo from the MacArthur family living room, featuring several stringed instruments of vernacular design which Margaret collected during her life. Margaret’s granddaughter Robin MacArthur provided the liner notes, and the whole project made for a wonderful collaboration of hands.
